Decaf green tea may help your body burn more fat, according to the Journal of the International Society of Sports Nutrition.
For four weeks, 14 young men had their exercise performance and fat burning measured by researchers. Half of the men were given a concentrated green tea supplement, while others received a placebo.
At the end of the study, researchers found that the men given the green tea supplement burned fat 25% faster and lost 1.6% more body fat than the placebo group.
Attributed to these results are the catechin polyphenols that naturally occur in green tea. Theses antioxidants have been found to influence metabolic activities and may, over the long run, influence gene expression of fat metabolism enzymes.
